I love my mother for many, many reasons, but one of them is that she works in a school and is able to get me copies of Dr Who books whenever the book depot sends them multiples! So yesterday she delivered a hefty load of Sticker Books, Activity Books, Puzzle Books and Pop-Up Books. And then I scanned some of the photos and pics I liked best....

click for groovy photoshoots of Ten and assorted friends. Some of these pics I've never seen before! )

oh, and the new DWM came out today; here are a few very very mildly-spoilerish scans... a lovely cover pic of Matt, something about the Tardis, and a cute photo of David Tennant with the mag's journalist (the rather hot Ben Cook)

He’d always maintained that talking to yourself was a sign of sanity. Now he was the living embodiment of it – there seemed to be another version of him, subtly different, more upbeat, more impulsive, less damaged and despairing – arguing with him inside his own head.

He's still alive...but he's got company.

Series five stuffs

DWM has confirmed the writers for series five. Moffat's doing six, Chibnall's doing two, with one each from old friends Mark Gatiss, Gareth Roberts and the marvellous Toby Whithouse (as well as four episodes for the new series of Being Human!). Richard Curtis has done one, as we know, and as was rumoured in the Mail on Sunday, we're getting one from Simon Nye (best known for Men Behaving Badly, best forgotten for Hardware).

The indefatigable Scooty has pictures of Matt and Karen filming, and here's a bonus video:

Okay everyone, just a quick question to somewhat ease my insanity...

Does anyone know when the End of Time episodes are airing in Australia? I know I can watch them online (because I did that for the other 3 specials last year) but I promised a friend I wouldn't do that this time and would watch it with her on television... but it's driving me mad, this waiting! The suspense! I'm trying really hard to stay away from spoilers and such...

But anyway, if anyone knows the date they'll be airing over here, I'd be much obliged!

This is driving me nuts. I've been through the Sonic Biro site, the David Tennant site, my own DVD collection - but I can't find the image that's in my head.

He's standing, back to the camera, or perhaps walking away from the camera. His coat's on, it's not a steeply angled shot but a fairly straight-on shot from behind.

Anyone know where I could find a pic like this? It needs to be hi-rse, too - I've got plans for it.

Thanks!

I was watching Jeopardy (an American quiz show) on Tuesday evening with my dad, and I was highly amused to see this clue:

"Matt Smith is the latest actor to be this sci-fi "Dr.", previously played by Peter Davison & Tom Baker."

I got unnecessarily excited and my dad looked at me like I was crazy, heh.

paper pellet litter and commercial treat advice

Jan. 7th, 2010 | 01:02 am
posted by: fairyoftheglen in guinea_pigs

When I first got Fluffy the only timothy based pellet we could find was the (new?) carefresh brand. Fluffy loved it, but I wasn't so sure. It was a little dusty and there were all these bits of other things mixed in. Seeds and dried carrots, etc. Well it seemed like she enjoyed nothing more than digging in the pellets for fun bits to pick out and eat first. By the time I got her to my house (my mother took care of her for a few weeks while I arranged transport) I already had some nice cavy cuisine for her, but the carefresh pellets were timothy based and she seemed to enjoy them so I let her finish them before gradually starting her on the oxbow pellets. For a while she would nose around in the oxbow every time I gave her fresh pellets and then look all disappointed when there weren't any goodies mixed in.

I had noticed at the grocery store various small animal treats that looked like the seed mixes you sometimes find in pellets. I was wondering if any of you knew of one that would be safe for me to give a pinch or so mixed in with her pellets so she could have the fun of her search but I would feel better knowing that she had her complete nutrition taken care of with the cavy cuisine. Or even if you can't tell me a specific one, then some tips on what to look for. Or maybe I can find dried carrot somewhere and use that instead?

She hasn't even finished her whole bag of cavy cuisine, but for her it seems to have been so long that I think she's accepted that her goodies come from other sources now, so maybe I should just leave well enough alone?

In other news I've been experimenting with various litters since I adopted Fluffy several months ago and I finally found one that I really like. I had considered fleece & towels but my boyfriend was not thrilled with putting them through our laundry, so I was looking at other options. I haven't heard much about it before though, so I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with it or one like it? It's the petco store brand of paper pellet litter. I was actually using the "cat" litter rather than the small animal litter. I looked very carefully but couldn't see any difference other than the price. They (both) say they have baking soda in them to help with odor control. I don't know if it is due to the baking soda or not but I have had much less odor problems than with the aspen. They are relatively soft, super absorbent and they don't fall apart. Yay!

I had started with carefresh over wood pellets, carefresh is too costly by itself, and the wood was turning to sawdust and was difficult to clean. So I tried aspen shavings. They get everywhere and stick to everything, and they weren't absorbent enough by themselves. So I tried putting wood pellets underneath the aspen. That was better but I was back to the wood pellets which was a pain. So when I ran out of the wood pellets and I ended up at a different store than my usual, I noticed these paper pellets. I've been using them under the aspen, but I think I'm not going to bother with the aspen any more. The whole point was to give the pig something soft to walk on, but these paper pellets are much softer than the wood, I experimentally left part of the cage with paper pellets-no aspen and Fluffy seems to be happy standing there, so I think I won't bother with them anymore. Not sure what to do with the leftovers, but it sure is a relief to not have to deal with them anymore.

Her Christmas present from my mom was a nice big fluffy cuddle cup. From me, I hope to get her C&C set up this week and then I can (Finally!)start looking for a friend for her :)

Over the past year I've delved heavily into Classic Who episodes, and having finally completed that journey recently, I find myself yearning for a bit more. Now I've heard a lot about the Big Finish Audios and assorted other things, and I wondered if any of you had any suggestions as to where would be a good place to start with the Big Finish Audios. Or, is there another form I should also look at it?

I figured here would be the best place to ask, I don't know that many who fans in real life and even fewer that are quite as obsessive as I do believe I have become. =)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/ideas/help/thoughts/opinions.

VID: Farewell to Ten, the Doctor Who Remix (Blame It on the Pop)

Jan. 6th, 2010 | 10:04 pm
posted by: pinkfinity in doctorwho

So, what have I been doing since I watched the final David Tennant episode of Doctor Who?

Vidding. And weeping a bit while rewatching.

TITLE: Farewell to Ten, the Doctor Who Remix

MUSIC: Blame it on the Pop, the 2009 Remix by DJ Earworm - all songs included in the remix are listed below

RATING: PG

Characters: If they appeared in a Tennant episode, there's a chance they'll be in here. I think I used clips from about 90% of David's episodes.

Spoilers: All of New Who through "The End of Time Pt. II"

GENRE: Mash-up.

NOTES: In December of 2009, DJ Earworm released a remix of the top 25 songs in the US from 2009. I heard it the day before the last episode of Doctor Who starring David Tennant was set to air, and I knew from the first notes that I needed to do a vid about the Tenth Doctor set to this amazing mix of songs. It's my homage to Ten, his companions, his rivals and enemies.

So many thanks to [info]longtimegone for sitting with me through the editing process - you are invaluable!

( + Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey mash-up remixy stuff via the fake cut )

I could see them planning this all out at home in my head

Dear Two Ladies coming through my line,

first off the place I work at, the current store your standing in, is a CORPORATE grocery store. Mostly located in the south.

We are NOT a antique shop or a thrift store.

You came in here at 9:58. TWO MINUTES BEFORE WE CLOSED. You went to the bakery to PULL OUT A BIG BOX OF DONUTS out from the BOTTOM OF OUR 'SCANNED OUT' CART which had a huge random assembly of all our bakery goods that sell by date is TOMORROW.

asking for a discount on them is the dumbest thing you could ever do. Oh the box is mashed and the donuts are smooshed a little bit? so you want a discount? maybe its because you pulled it from the bottom of a freaking cart full of bakery goods that go to donations for the needy :|

Oh they were on sale too? a dollar less for a box of donuts is not the end of the world. If you really wanted them you should of came in here at 7 am to grab it before anyone else could. why in the world do you think coming in two minutes before we close would be a good idea?

I almost understand if you were trying for the hell of it, But it seemed like your number one goal to come in here and get the donuts discounted. It was amazingly amusing that you two left here empty handed and made a disgusted "I cant believe this" mumbling over some donuts.

DONUTS!

Love, your Publix cashier that is appalled by your dumb

PS....DONUTS...friggin DONUTS!

Repeatedly Witnessed Sucks

Jan. 6th, 2010 | 09:06 pm
posted by: ctk_hullo in customers_suck

Seriously, customers, do you really need to keep hauling carts to the bus stops and leaving them there? 'Cause, y'know, you're:
1) clogging up the bus shelters and obstructing sidewalks,
2) making extra, needless work for the bus boys, and
3) going to have to carry your bags on the bus anyway!
And it's not like these people have huge loads or anything. Just two to five bags. In the widest f'ing cart there is. The bus stops aren't that far away from the stores, either - always on a side of the parking lot adjacent to the store. Use your arms (for other than pushing), and set the bags on the ground while you're waiting. It won't nibble at your groceries, I swear.
